Chloe Rebecca Bryde is a mum and writer living with her family in the Lake District, England. I first came across Chloe in a Facebook Group shortly after she had recently finished writing and illustrating a children’s book to inspire more youngsters to Get Outside. I thought the book was a fantastic idea and is a lovely story that fits perfectly with the Adventure Accessories #AdventureWild ethos.
I was immediately drawn to the lovely picture on the front cover of a wind-blown Tilly setting out on her adventure. I am a keen advocate for outdoor adventure, from a family of Duke of Edinburgh, Guides and Scouts and married to an ex TA, wild camping enthusiast. You do not need to be an experienced hiker or camper to encourage youngsters to explore and enjoy the great outdoors with the help of Chloe’s beautiful book.
The story 'Dragon's Breath and Yellow Wellingtons' follows a day in the life of Tilly Buttersworth. A robust five-year-old lass, she quickly informs the reader that five-year-olds are perfectly capable of being both independent and intuitive. Set in the rugged English Lake District hills, Tilly, alongside her closest friend Little Robin, packs her coat full of sandwiches, closes the door on her mother's stone cottage and embarks on an adventure to seek out the dragon, whose breath settles on the still waters of Lake Windermere.
If you love the wilds of the English Lake District and seek magic in the limitless adventures of a child's imagination, then this book is for you.
It's a perfect read for children developing their skills as independent readers whilst providing younger children with an opportunity to escape to the mountains at bedtime. Dragon's Breath and Yellow Wellingtons is a moral tale, with lessons of independence, self-confidence and understanding others.
Chloe aims her book will also encourage more children both locally and worldwide to get their wellies on and discover our beautiful landscapes for themselves.
The #GetOutside initiative was created by Ordnance Survey the national mapping agency for the United Kingdom. Ordnance Survey is one of the world's largest producers of maps. They inspire us all to spend at least 1 hour a day outside and here at Adventure Accessories HQ, we have signed up to the Country Walking, #Walk1000Miles in a year challenge.
This equates to just 2.74 miles a day, but you can walk the 1000 miles anyway you like. A little bit everyday or spread over several adventures. The only rule is Your challenge, your way.
